The term digital nomad, once a somewhat foreign concept to many, has become ever more prevalent in the current time we now refer to as 2020 (in the future, can we please refer to 2020 as “the year that must not be named” please? Thanks in advance)

But with a remote workforce that has become more normalized than ever before, it has allowed both employers and employees to embrace something that we’ve known for a while: remote work is the future. Not only is it possible, but it’s also

So where does one head if you’re looking to put the nomad into digital nomad? Due to a (don’t say it…don’t say it….) *unprecedented* year, travel is more limited than ever before. Safety is at the top of minds for all of us. So that leaves us with one question…

Where can you go as a digital nomad in 2020? The answer that has risen above the rest? Playa del Carmen, Mexico.

Samson Waters Rentals

When you’re looking for places to stay when you’re living more of a nomadic lifestyle, you’ve got a few options in Playa del Carmen. We’ve found that one of the best options is going directly through a property management agency. This is for a few reasons we’ll break down, but the key here is that all of these places are furnished. If you’re looking to stay in Playa del Carmen for 1-6 months, we’d definitely recommend this route. After living here for a few months ourselves, one rental agency has risen above the rest.

If you’re a digital nomad in Playa del Carmen, we couldn’t recommend Samson Waters more. Our founder Steph recently stayed at a Samson Waters Property in Playa del Carmen, and let’s just say–it was maybe the best decision of 2020.

Samson Waters is a property management company with locations all throughout Mexico, not just Playa del Carmen. Each villa, condo, or home is equipped with everything you could possibly need to make your home truly feel like home.

You’ll find speedy WiFi (an absolute must for nomads, and TBH, this can be kind of tricky in Mexico), a fully equipped kitchen (everything from a blender for your smoothies, to a coffee maker), ice cold air conditioning, robes, pools, gyms…it’s basically a nomadic paradise.

Plus, you’ll get stellar service from the Samson Waters team, who will make your transition into your new home both seamless and stress free. They have over 130+ properties throughout the most iconic locations in Mexico, so there’s sure to be something that fits your budget, aesthetic, and vibe. Here’s a peak at just one of their gorgeous homes we had the pleasure of staying in over the past month.

If you’re interested in booking with Samson Waters, you can use code THECURATEDCOLLECTIVE for 10% of your stay at any property (we know, we’re excited about it too!)

Airbnb

One of the greatest things to come to Airbnb this year is undoubtedly the fact that they now offer monthly rentals as an option. Playa del Carmen has no shortage of monthly rentals available, all equipped with everything you might need for a month (or months) at your new home away from home. This includes everything from

Pro Tip: Many rental agencies use Airbnb in addition to their own website. If you’re looking to skip the Airbnb fees, try messaging the host directly to see if they’d be willing to allow you to book directly through their agency, and save yourself on the crazy Airbnb fees! You’re welcome, in advance.

Facebook Groups

Another place to look for short term rentals in Playa del Carmen as a digital nomad is within Facebook Groups. Now, we left this one last for a reason. We only recommend this route for more seasoned nomads, as there is unfortunately a higher chance of fraud within these groups.

However, if you’re a seasoned digital nomad in Playa del Carmen, or in general, we highly recommend the Mexpats Facebook Group, it’s a solid community of Digital Nomads in Playa del Carmen (and is such a good resource for more than just housing!)
